My strength/skills/superpower: Other than balancing my career and being a mother of five, I’m not sure if this is a superpower, but it is definitely a strength – I can look at a big picture and find patterns. When I get all the initial information from clients for analysis, everything is fragmented so it’s like putting puzzle pieces together. From there, once I “defragment” all that data, I can work out the solution.
Describe what you do at theREVpeople: I provide revenue management expertise and training to hotels and casino resorts. On top of this, I try to present different perspectives on the topic of revenue practice so that anyone can understand and apply it to what they do.
How do your strengths play into the work you do? Always keep calm, and don’t lose sight of your goal. I love solving problems and spotting opportunities. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t be doing this. I believe all problems can be solved, and problems are opportunities!
Imagine your best hospitality/hotel experience – what does it look like? Hospitality has been my life for the past 27 years; I can’t imagine NOT ever being involved in this industry. My reward is seeing the people who I have coached or guided, whether directly or indirectly, excel in their career and applying the principles of revenue management to what they do.
What brings you the greatest joy at work? Opening minds for others – revenue management is not just for people who work with numbers. To me, revenue management encompasses every department in an organization from the GM to Sales and Marketing to F&B to Housekeeping and so on. I also get a lot of joy from learning from everyone and helping others to achieve their leadership and business goals.
My advice for women in hospitality and travel-tech: Position yourself as a person trying to learn, contribute and influence others to excel and achieve their results – just like everyone else, man or woman, going through education and working hard to reach great heights in their career. Just shine and lean in like any other human being whether you are coding or presenting a business case in the boardroom. Focus on the objective at hand and conquer any odds by all means, but gender should not be one of them.
